Born in the London borough of Barking, John Terry was schooled at the local comprehensive before he joined Chelsea at the age of fourteen were he played for their youth side.
He initially played in the midfield position but was soon moved to his current position of centre back. His brother Paul is also a professional Football player playing for Leyton Orient.

John Terry played his first game for Chelsea at the age of eighteen in a cup tie game against Aston Villa, which saw him come on as a late substitute. Chelsea wanted to give Terry more first team games so during 2000 he was loaned to Nottingham Forest.

During the next season John Terry made twenty three starts for Chelseas first team and then went on to win the clubs player of the year award. 2001 saw Terry becoming the Captain of Chelsea for the first time when they played Charlton in a league game, this proved to be a turning point which later saw him wearing the Captains armband which was given to him by his Manager at the time.

New Manager Mourinho also gave Terry the honour of captain when he took over. He was chosen as player of the year in 2004-05 and also best defender in the UEFA Champions League. Terry remains popular with fellow professionals and fans alike.

Terry has even played in goal for Chelsea when both the keeper and reserve keeper were injured in a game against Reading in 2006. It was near the end of the game and the only goalkeeping action he saw was a free kick, Chelsea won the game one nil.

John Terrys England career began in June 2003 when England manager Steve McClaren picked him to play against Serbia and Montenegro. He also played a pivotal role for England in Euro 2004 when Sven Goran Eriksson said he was his first choice for centre back position.

He was captain for England when they played Poland in the World cup. John Terry was to be the first England senior player to score at the new Wembley when they drew one one with Brazil.
He was also the first Captain to raise the FA Cup at the new Wembley when Chelsea beat Manchester United to the title in 2007.
